The 3-layer generator maintenance routine
- Before use: inspect for visible fuel/oil leakage, damaged wiring or hoses, blocked ventilation, exhaust damage and other unusual conditions.
- Operation and exercise: follow the exact model’s starting, loading, exercise and shutdown procedure. Note abnormal noise, vibration, smoke, odor, output or fault codes.
- Scheduled service: perform or arrange oil, filters and other model-specific work only at the intervals and procedures specified for the generator.
Dust, heat and other severe operating conditions can affect service requirements. Record the applicable schedule rather than assuming the normal interval always applies.
Stop-and-investigate conditions
- Fuel, oil or exhaust leakage.
- New or unusual noise, vibration, odor or smoke.
- Repeated shutdown, warning/fault code or inability to carry the expected load.
- Damaged exhaust components or a condition that could allow exhaust into occupied areas.
- Electrical behavior that is abnormal for the generator/RV system.
